Your Authentic Self, Across Cultures.

Smiling second-generation AAPI therapist sitting on a bench in a peaceful outdoor setting, promoting mental health and culturally sensitive therapy for Asian American communities

Hi, I’m Brandon. As a second-generation therapist, I understand the tightrope between cultures. My goal is to create a safe, affirming space where you can unpack the pressures you’ve grown up with, and reconnect with your most authentic self.

Individual Therapy

You don't have to handle everything by yourself. Therapy gives you a safe place to understand your identity, reduce stress, and be true to yourself, especially when you come from different cultural backgrounds.

Couples Therapy

Whether you're navigating communication challenges, cultural differences, or life transitions, couples therapy can help you strengthen your connection and understand each other more deeply - without losing yourselves in the process.

Family Therapy

Family dynamics can feel complicated - especially across generations. Family therapy creates space for open, respectful dialogue so you can heal patterns, bridge cultural gaps, and move forward together with more understanding.

About Me

I'm a second-generation Vietnamese/Chinese Asian American male, and I understand the challenges of growing up between cultures — the pressure to meet family expectations, the silence around mental health, and the weight of trying to belong in more than one world. These lived experiences shape how I show up as a therapist: with cultural sensitivity, curiosity, and care.

I support individuals and couples as they navigate intergenerational dynamics, explore identity, and reflect on how their values shape their lives and relationships. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck between who they are and who they feel they’re supposed to be, and our work together creates space to unpack that with honesty and compassion.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California, I take a relational, trauma-informed approach to therapy. My work is grounded in modalities such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). These approaches allow me to tailor our work to your unique experiences, whether you're navigating relationship challenges, cultural tensions, or a desire for deeper self-understanding.

FAQs

What can I expect in the first session?

Our first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I'll ask questions about what brings you in, your goals for therapy, and your background. You’re welcome to ask me anything about the process. The goal is to help you feel safe, heard, and supported.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?

Currently, I offer teletherapy for clients located in California. All sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

How do I pay for sessions?

I accept payment via debit, credit, HSA, and FSA. Payment is due at the time of service.

Do you offer sliding scales?

A limited number of reduced-fee spots may be available. Please ask about this during your consultation if needed.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a full session fee charge.

What is a superbill?

For most insurance plans, I am an out-of-network provider. This gives us more freedom and flexibility in our work together, as we are not limited by the rules and restrictions that insurance companies often place on treatment.

While I don't bill insurance directly, I can provide you with a superbill. This is a detailed receipt of services that you can submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement. Think of it as a key that can unlock your benefits and give you more control over your care.

Here's how a superbill benefits you:

  • More Control Over Your Care: You can choose a therapist who is the best fit for your specific needs, rather than being limited to a short list of providers on your insurance panel.

  • Greater Privacy: Your diagnosis and treatment information are shared only with the insurance company for reimbursement purposes, not for an ongoing review that can sometimes be associated with in-network care.

  • Potential for Reimbursement: Many insurance plans offer excellent out-of-network benefits. This means you may be able to get a significant portion of your session fees reimbursed directly to you, making quality therapy more affordable.

To understand your specific benefits, I encourage you to contact your insurance provider and ask them about your out-of-network mental health coverage. They can tell you exactly what percentage of the fee they will reimburse and what your deductible is.
